Moving house can be extremely stressful and hectic, especially on the day of the move. If you leave a lot of the packing till the last minute, you may end up taking more than you need to your new house or disposing of items in an environmentally irresponsible way. So, what can you do to ease the stress of moving house?
It takes a lot of effort to move house, but getting things done well ahead of moving day will do a lot to reduce the stress. If you have accumulated a lot of belongings over the years, you may feel rather overwhelmed at the prospect of sorting them out. However, it is best not to look at it as one huge task. Instead, take just a few minutes each day to sort through a small pile of items. You could try arranging them into 3 piles. One pile could be for items to take with you to the new house, another pile could be for items to donate, and the third pile could be for a yard sale.
We often procrastinate about jobs we don’t want to do. One of those jobs is sorting out the garage or basement. Again, try to sort these areas out well in advance of moving day. That way, you will be able to dispose of items like chemicals, used paint cans, old electronic equipment, batteries, etc. correctly.
Planning ahead can help to reduce the stress that goes with moving house, and help you to do your part to protect the environment by disposing of your things in the right way. Plus, you will only take things you really want with you to your new home.
