The subject of bed bugs is not a pleasant one but, sad to say, they have become a big problem in recent years. It is very easy to unknowingly transfer bed bugs from one location to another in your luggage, etc. which means that if you have stayed in a place that has them, you may have brought them into your home. How can you tell if bed bugs are in your home?

First of all, it is good to know what a bed bug looks like so that you can identify one. Bed bugs are rust-colored and have flat oval-shaped bodies. They are incredibly small, particularly when first hatched so you may not be able to detect them very well. However, you can usually see signs of their presence in the form of small stains on bed sheets and mattresses. You may also notice a musty odor. If bed bugs bite you, they may produce itchy bumps on your skin.

Don’t let the name fool you, bed bugs are not just found in beds, they can also be found in clothing, books, picture frames, and soft furnishings.

If you suspect that bed bugs are hiding in your home, what should you do? Perhaps the first reaction is to panic and look up a bunch of remedies online, but this is not advisable as trying to eliminate them yourself may make the problem worse. The best course of action is to contact a pest control expert who is properly trained to get rid of them.
