Have you ever thought about what our lives would be like without a functioning toilet in the house? Perhaps it doesn’t bear thinking about. However, considering how difficult it would be to live without a toilet, it is a good idea to take a little time to see how well the toilet(s) are working in your house. Here are a few areas that often need maintenance:

How well the toilet flushes can tell you a lot about its condition. Perform this test on each toilet in your house: flush it and observe how long it takes the tank to fill back up. Is it taking longer than normal? If so, the toilet may need fixing somewhere. The same is true if it takes an unusually long time to flush.

Another common issue your toilets may have is continuously running water. Very often, we don’t even notice it is happening. But this is not something to ignore as it is wasting precious water and costing you money. If your home has well water, this problem will also put additional strain on the pump.

Finally, you will want to check the toilet bowl itself. Look for chips or cracks in the porcelain, and don’t ignore them if you find them. A home inspector lists a toilet as faulty if they find issues like this, so remedy the issue as soon as possible.

Considering the average person flushes the toilet about 2500 times a year, isn’t it worth taking a few minutes to check how well the toilets in your home are functioning?
