In our second blog of the month, we are going to continue the theme of finding ways to cut down on expensive household bills. This time we are going to look at some simple ways to save on your electricity bill.
Cutting our electricity usage doesn’t always require major changes but being mindful of the way we use electricity in the small, everyday things can result in a lot of energy savings. For example, were you aware that cell phone and laptop chargers use electricity even when they are not charging your devices? Unplugging them when not in use will help reduce energy consumption, even if it’s a small amount.
Keeping your computer turned off when you are not using it also helps to use less energy. If you must keep it on, then try to at least switch off the monitor. An even better solution, if you have the choice between using a desktop computer or a laptop, is to use the laptop, as it will use far less electricity.
If you need to replace any of your old appliances or electronics make sure you choose ENERGY STAR-rated ones that will help to save a lot on electricity consumption.
Check the position of your refrigerator and freezer. Is it close to the stove, dishwasher, or heating vent? If they are positioned close to a heat source like this, they will need to work much harder to cool and use a lot more electricity.
As we can see, these are very simple energy-saving solutions, but they all add up, helping you to keep your electricity bills as low as possible.
